my name is Cody Clouse and I've been a fan of yours for quite some time. even listened to most of your old mix tapes, the ones before you got the soulfulness sound you have today. i actually just added your album, 31 min. to take off, from youtube onto my playlists the night before my accident on july 24, 2010. The next morning i headed out with my friends to a lake about an hour from my house that none of us had been to, to meet up with some friends. as soon as we got on the lake, from my phone, i plugged it into my idock player and put on your playlist. being the adventurous type that i am, when we docked off next to all the other boats i dove in and unfortunately was right under a sandbar. i immediately hit the sandbar, and within that split second, my life has been drastically altered. my hands hit the sandbar first, and then my head. i immediately knew something was wrong, when i no longer could move anything but my neck. by the time i was lifelined to Methodist hospital in indianapolis, indiana, i woke up a couple days later after the doctors didn't even think i would survive. i had suffered a dislocation c-4/C5 vertebrae in my neck, meaning that my c-4 vertebrae had slid over into the spinal canal where my spinal cord should've been in my c-5 vertebrae was partially free-floating in my neck. the initial x-rays they believed that i had completely severed my spinal cord, however after an mri it was obvious that my spinal cord and seemingly had made an S turn in my neck without a complete sever. they never thought i would have use of anything, breathe on my own, speak on my own, or even eat. Today, not only can i breathe on my own, speak on my own, and eat on my own; i can move my arms, move side to side and feel all my upper body and parts of my feet and legs. once i could start talking one of the first thing i had my friends do was buy your album and put it on my itunes SO i could hear it anytime i wanted. i have now been selected as a candidate to receive experimental stem cells, which have already proven monumental in treating and in some cases completely reversing spinal cord injuries. the doctors would be administering the treatment in the dominican republic, and the treatment would cost about 50,000 dollars. my family and i have already went through most of our funds, and this past year and a half in initial hospital costs, which were over 1.5 million, as well as therapy and in-home care. this leads me to my next question, and one that i never thought I would have to make especially being a 24-year-old who put myself through school, and even had a god-given talent to play football in college. mike, if there is any way that you might be able to put on a benefit concert for me, and only for the money needed for the treatment, everything else you could keep, i would truly be blessed by your graciousness. i know it's a lot to ask, but if there is any way please feel free to contact me at cody.j.clouse@gmail.com or althouGH I KNOW i shouldn't leave it on the web, for you to do this for me my number is 8123729693. sorry for some of the punctuation, i can't move my hands so i have to use voice dissertation, which allows me to speak whatever i want the computer to write.
